Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint  is an application developed by Microsoft, used to create, edit and view slide show presentations developed by Microsoft. It was officially launched on May 22, 1990 and was integrated into the Microsoft Office Suite. It's currently the most popular presentation software, with a market share of ~95% as of 2012, being installed on at least 1 billion computers.


  • Provides a variety of predefined templates and layouts
  • It's easy to create simple presentations
  • Can be used by advanced users to create powerful presentations
  • Links to websites can be integrated directly into the presentation
  • Can be used in presenting different learning styles


  • It can distract the audience when using too many graphics, animations and other visuals, or when the slides contain too much information
  • Certain types of presentations (detailed processes etc.) are not suitable to be used with PowerPoint
  • It takes a considerable amount of time to create a good presentation
  • It's available only on Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS platforms
