This player was built from the necessity of providing high quality MIDI playback to users which did not have expensive hardware

The technology used was Microsoft's DirectMusic, which is part of the DirectX distribution and which offers emulated MIDI rendering. Using this emulation, the software is capable of offering compelling playback quality

Another feature of this product is the ability to support skinning. The skinning was implemented using another DirectX technology - DirectDraw - that provides hardware accelerated graphical functions; therefore the use of a skin comes at no performance degradation

In order to implement skinning seamlessly, a graphical toolkit was developed that wraps DirectX operations and offers a set of controls similar to those in MFC but which feature hardware acceleration

Platform details

  • Environment: Microsoft Windows 7/Vista/XP
  • Development tools: Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2010
  • Requirements: DirectX 10
