The licensing system allows application developers to secure their applications by restricting access to their applications only to licensed users. It can also be used to impose license time and concurrent users limitations.

The system has the following components:

  • The Key Manager - is a vendor-side application that allows the automated management of products, license customers and licenses. Here licenses can be granted, licenses serial numbers generated, and limitations devised.
  • The Key Service - is a vendor-side web service that works in conjunction with the Key Manager and allows the licensed users to automatically retrieve their license serial numbers (in order to authorize their applications) via the Internet.
  • The License Server - is a client side server that applications query to find out about their license status; it keeps track of all the licenses granted or requested to/by the applications.
  • The License Server Manager - is a client side front end for the License Server; it allows the users to install or request licenses.
  • The License Client - represents a library that application developers use to make their application license-enabled. It communicates with the License Server and notifies the host application of its license status.
